Bunny coat

For the little ones at home, we always look for the softest and fluffiest material. This time, we've knitted the bunny coat with Caricia Blues and Classic Merino.


YOU WILL NEED

  • Caricia Blues in Color. 006 (4 skeins).
  • Caricia Classic Merino in Color. 043 (1 skein).
  • Knitting needle No. 5 (Caricia Blues) and knitting needle No. 3.5 (Caricia Classic Merino).
  • Tapestry needle.
  • 3 buttons.
  • Stitch holder.

STITCHES USED AND ABBREVIATIONS

Garter st: garter stitch. Stockinette st: stockinette stitch. Dec: decrease. Inc: increase. Row: row / Rows: rows. St: stitch / Sts: stitches.

HOW TO MAKE THE BUNNY COAT?

Size 9-12 months

NOTE: the body of the coat is made in one piece.

Back and front

Make with Caricia Blues Col. 006. -Row 1-4: cast on 50 sts and knit in garter st (2cm.). -Row 5-50: knit in stockinette st (22cm.).

Armhole

-Row 51-52: dec. 2 sts on each side. -Row 53: dec. 1 st on each side. -Row 54-77: continue in stockinette st (36cm.). -Row 78: bind off 19 central sts, continue one side, place the other on the stitch holder.

Neck

-Row 79-84: start with the front (no shoulder seams to create the neck opening). Knit in stockinette st. -Row 85: inc. 1 st. -Row 86-90: continue in stockinette st. -Row 91: inc. 1 st. -Row 92-93: inc. 4 sts. -Row 94: inc. 5 sts, this way we finish the shape of one side of the front neck. -Row 95-107: continue in stockinette st.

How to make the buttonhole?

-Row 108: (start with the first buttonhole) knit 5 sts, bind off 1 st and continue the row. -Row 109: inc. 1 st in the same place where the previous one was bound off. Repeat 3 times every 12 rows (5cm. between buttonholes).

Armhole

-Row 110-112: again at the armhole at the same height as the first buttonhole, make the armhole the same as the back but instead of dec. inc. -Row 113-159: continue in stockinette st until it reaches the same length as the back. -Row 160-163: finish in garter st. Take the stitches reserved on the stitch holder and follow the same procedure but in reverse.

Sleeve

Make with Caricia Blues Col. 006. -Row 1-4: cast on 26 sts and knit in garter st. -Row 5-45: change to stockinette st, inc. 1 st on each side every 10 rows, to shape the sleeve. It should have 40 rows until reaching the cap (23cm.).

How to make the sleeve cap?

-Row 46-64: dec. in each row and on both sides 2-1-1-1-2-1-1-2-2 sts. -Row 65: bind off all sts.

Hood

Make with Caricia Blues Col. 006. -Row 1-4: cast on 58 sts and knit in garter st. -Row 5-35: change to stockinette st (15cm.) -Row 36: bind off 22 sts on both sides, leaving 14 sts in the center. -Row 37-73: continue with the same st (18cm.) and bind off the 14 sts.

Ears

Outer part. Make with Caricia Blues Col. 006. -Row 1-22: cast on 12 sts and knit in stockinette st (8cm.). -Row 23-35: then dec. 1 st at the beginning of each row until 1 st remains (make 2 identical parts). Inner part. Make with Caricia Classic Merino Col. 043 and 3.5mm needles. -Row 1-28: cast on 19 sts and knit in stockinette st (8cm.). -Row 29-49: dec. 1 st at the beginning of each row until 1 st remains (make 2 identical parts).

Tail

Make with Caricia Classic Merino Col. 043 and 3.5mm needles. -Row 1-22: cast on 19 sts and knit in stockinette st (6cm.) -Row 23-34: dec. 1 st at the beginning of each row until 4 sts remain (make two identical parts).

Pockets

Make with Caricia Blues Col. 006. -Row 1-4: cast on 16 sts and knit in garter st. -Row 5-23: change to stockinette st (8cm.) and bind off. (make 2 identical parts).

Finishing

Sew the side seams of the back and both fronts. Sew the sleeve seams and adapt them to the body opening. Sew the pockets to the front. To make the ears, sew the outer part to the inner part, wrong sides together, all around except the base, turn right side out, fold the base and insert into the top of the hood seam. Then, sew the two seams of the hood at the back and adapt it to the neck opening. To make the tail, sew the two pieces wrong sides together all around except the base, turn right side out and sew it to the bottom of the back. Sew on the buttons.
