HOW TO CROCHET CHRISTMAS BALLS
STITCHES USED
Ch: chain
Sc: single crochet
Inc: increase
Dec: decrease
NOTES
· This pattern can be made as a ball cover, using a Christmas ball you want to recycle, or you can fill it with any compatible stuffing, such as wadding.
· The measurements, hook size and stitches are designed for 20cm diameter balls. If yours have other dimensions or you prefer to make them a different size, you just have to recalculate the starting chains and the number of rows.
· We will make a single piece, which we will join at its sides and gather the top and bottom.
· We will chain 1 at the beginning of each round, which will not count as a stitch.
· From round 3 and in all odd rounds, we will crochet into the back loop only. This step is optional.
· We will change color every two rounds. You can do it however you like.
PATTERN
22CH
1. 1inc – 19sc – 1dec
2. 1dec – 19sc – 1inc
3. Repeat R1
4. Repeat R2
Continue this series of repetitions until you have 24 rounds.
If you look closely, there is always a decrease on one side and an increase on the other. In all rounds. This will create the diagonal shape of the fabric.
Now is the time to join the first row (the 22ch) with the last round. You can do this with the same crochet hook or with a tapestry needle. Once you have formed the “tube,” thread a strand through one end and gather it until it closes. Insert the ball you want to recycle or the stuffing you are going to use and repeat the gathering process with the other end of the “tube.” If you have used stuffing instead of a ball, cut a strand of one of the colors and sew it to create a hanger.

Done! You can make as many as you want, with just one skein of each color you can make a lot. It's a great idea to recycle Christmas decorations from previous years :)
