HOW TO MAKE THIS STAR CUSHION?

This pattern is crocheted in two parts; first, we will crochet the base of the star, and then we will crochet the points. Afterward, we will crochet another identical piece to join them together.

ABBREVIATIONS

  • MR: Magic Ring
  • Dc: Double crochet
  • Inc: Increase
  • Sl st: Slip stitch
  • Ch: Chain
  • Hdc: Half double crochet
  • Sc: Single crochet

STEP BY STEP

The pattern consists of 2 identical parts, the front and the back. Both are crocheted in the same way, so remember that when you make this one, you need to make another piece exactly the same. R1: Make a magic ring with 3 ch (counts as dc), and 9 dc. Close the round with a sl st and make 2 ch = 10 dc R2: Dc inc in each st from the previous round = 20 dc Close with sl st + 2 ch R3: dc, inc = 30 dc Close with sl st + 2 ch R4: 2dc, inc = 40 Close with sl st + 2 ch R5: (1dc, inc, 2dc) repeat around the round. = 50 Close with sl st. Do not cut the yarn.   *THE POINTS: We now have the base of our cushion, now we are going to make the points. From this point on, we stop crocheting in the round and crochet in rows as we are going to make each of the 5 points of our star.... For this, R1: crochet 3 ch (counts as dc) and crochet 9 dc = 10 dc Turn R2: sl st in the second st from the hook. 3 ch (counts as dc) and crochet 7 more dc = 8 dc. Turn R3: sl st in the second st from the hook. 3 ch (counts as dc) and crochet 5 more dc = 6 dc Turn R4: sl st in the second st from the hook. 3 ch (counts as dc) and crochet 3 more dc = 4 dc Turn R5: sl st in the second st from the hook. 3 ch (counts as dc) and crochet one dc in the same stitch where we crocheted the 3 ch. Dc in the next st = 3 dc. Fasten off and cut.   *SECOND AND REMAINING POINTS:  To make the second point of the star, reattach the yarn in the next free stitch at the base of the 50 stitches (with the right side of the work facing you), and repeat the process of the previous point, making R1 to R5 again. When finished, fasten off and proceed to make the next point, and so on until we have completed the 5 points that our star will have. Do not cut the yarn!   *FINISHING AND EDGING Now, to give it a better finish, we are going to crochet sc all around the edge of the star with the same color chosen for crocheting it, in the following way: at the tip of the star (in the middle dc), we are going to crochet 3 hdc in the same stitch, and we are going to make sc until we reach the other tip of the star. There are exactly 13 sc distributed until reaching the next tip. Crochet 3 hdc again in the same stitch (in the middle dc) and continue until the other tip, crocheting 13 sc, and continue in this way until completing the entire edge of the star. Repeat the same process as above with the other side of the star, crochet all around its edge to achieve a better finish. We can make a simple lining using the same crocheted star pattern on fabric to make our lining, or make an approximate one, or simply stuff it. I advise you to make the lining so that the cushion filling does not come out. Once the lining is made, sew it and stuff it, not excessively. Don't worry if you're not the queen of sewing, neither am I, and look how beautiful it turned out. Place both right sides of our work facing outwards so that both wrong sides of the work are facing inwards, and join one side to the other with sc, matching the parts of the star. If you have respected the number of stitches indicated in the pattern on the edge, it will be very easy to join them. Before closing it completely, don't forget to carefully and calmly insert the lining that you had previously prepared as filling for your cushion. This part, as well as the joining of it, may be the most annoying or complicated part to do, but if you prepare it by matching both parts well, it will only take you a little while ;)
