Oslo Stroke Mitts

Today we are going to learn to knit some very warm mittens designed by Albita de Plata,  and knitted with our softest and warmest quality: Caricia Oslo. With this pattern, you will learn to work with the "false crochet" technique, which means crocheting in such a way that the result will look like knitting. We leave you the pattern so you can create your own mittens to protect yourself from the cold this winter.

YOU WILL NEED

1 ball Caricia Oslo (col. 101) Tapestry needle and scissors 6.00 mm hook. Choose your favorite colors on our website.

HOW ARE THE MITTENS MADE?

  • We will work in rows, always chain 1 at the beginning of each row and turn the work. Remember, throughout the entire chart, to make the slip stitches and half slip stitches THROUGH THE BACK LOOP, always.
  • PMR: this stitch is the same as the slip stitch, but yarn over before inserting the hook into the stitch. That is, yarn over, insert the hook, yarn over, and pull this last loop through the two loops on the hook.
  • We are going to make the mitt in two pieces, the large piece (the hand) and the small piece (the thumb). These two pieces will be rectangular, we will join them along one side to form a "tube" and gather one side to make the "round" end of the hand and thumb.
  • You can modify both the width and the length of the mitt, by making more, or fewer, initial chains and rows in width. Make a swatch and take measurements to adapt it to your ideal size.
  • The mitt is made in a single color, but you can add an embroidered embellishment in any other color. In my case, I used Caricia Oslo color 104 to embroider some decorative stitches.

PATTERN

HAND

Leaving a long yarn tail at the slip knot, chain 48. From row 1 to 29, only odd rows, work 30 PMR - 18 SL ST. From row 2 to 30, only even rows, work 18 SL ST - 30 PMR. Fasten off, leaving a long tail, and set the piece aside.

THUMB

Leaving a long yarn tail at the slip knot, chain 8. Work 10 rows of 8 SL ST each. Fasten off, leaving a long tail, and set the piece aside.

CLOSURES AND FINISHING

Take the hand piece and join the two sides along the length with a tapestry needle and the yarn tail you left at the end of fastening off, forming a tubular shape. When you have about 11cm left to join, stop and set it aside. Take the thumb piece and join the sides of the piece with a tapestry needle and the yarn tail you left at the end of fastening off, forming a tubular shape. Gather one of the ends, where you have the long yarn tail from the beginning slip knot, also with a tapestry needle, to form the round shape of the thumb. Join the thumb piece with a tapestry needle at the point where you stopped joining the hand piece, so that you have a closed opening for the thumb. Once the thumb piece is sewn to the large piece, continue closing the hand piece until you reach the end. At this point, take the yarn tail you left long at the slip knot and, with a tapestry needle again, gather that opening to form the round closure of the mitt. The SL ST part of the large piece will be at the wrist; fold it to form the elastic. Repeat this entire process to form the other mitt... and voilà!
