Perfect Sweater Recicoton

Perfect Recotton Sweater

The Perfect Sweater owes its name to something as simple as its final result, which will be... perfect! Follow the pattern by Albita de Plata and treat yourself to one of the most ideal garments for spring. This time we will not work with stitch count as such but with centimeters. Don't worry, you'll see it's much simpler than it seems. Also, with this technique, you will learn your measurements and you will be able to make as many sweaters as you want, in the design you like best. Let's do it!

SIZE

Here are some approximate measurements according to standard sizes. SIZE S: A 54cm - B 55cm - C 18cm - D 26cm - E 26cm SIZE M: A 62cm - B 59cm - C 20cm - D 30cm - E 28cm SIZE L: A 68cm - B 65cm - C 22cm - D 34cm - E 28cm SIZE XL: A 72cm - B 69cm - C 25cm - D 38cm - E 30cm

HOW TO MAKE THIS PERFECT SWEATER?:

To give you some context, we are going to make two main pieces, a front and a back. We will join them at the sides and neck (leaving space for sleeves and neckline) and then we will knit the sleeves. Like this:

ch: chain sl st: slip stitch sc: single crochet hdc: half double crochet

PATTERN

We recommend that you first make a 10x10cm swatch so you can calculate how many stitches you need in width and height according to your size measurements.

STEP 1

Make two identical pieces with the measurements corresponding to your size. In my case (XL), they were two pieces of 72x69cm, which translates to a total of 85 hdc in width and 69 rows in height. Start by making a chain the length of 'A' corresponding to your size and, using half double crochets, as many rows high as necessary until you reach measurement 'B'. *Remember to always make 2 ch at the beginning of each row, which will not count as a half double crochet.

STEP 2

Once you have the two identical pieces, single crochet all around, except for the initial chain part, which will be the bottom of the sweater. That is, sides and neck, all single crochet.

STEP 3

Once you have both pieces surrounded by sc, proceed to join them as shown in the drawing, joining the sides with slip stitches (leaving space for the sleeve) and the shoulders (leaving space for the neck). Both the measurement for the sleeve opening (C) and the neck opening (D) are noted in the standard measurements. The sl st join is done in the same way as joining granny squares. There are many ways to do it; Albita de Plata's YouTube channel shows how to make these types of joins.

STEP 4

We already have the main part of the sweater done, only the sleeves are left! We will make a round of hdc over the sc of the sleeve opening and then, continuing with rounds of hdc until we reach measurement (E) corresponding to your size. IMPORTANT: do not crochet the sleeves in a spiral, but instead, chain 2 and turn the fabric each time you start a round and close it with a slip stitch. This way we will ensure it has the same texture as the front and back. If the opening you left for the sleeve seems too wide for the rest of the arm, you can make a decrease at the end of each round and you will achieve a sleeve that fits snugly to your arm. Repeat all steps for the other sleeve.

STEP 5

To finish the sweater, make a round of sl st around the neck opening and at the end of the sleeves. Additionally, I added a strip of fringes on the chest in a V-shape, which gives it a super cool touch. To make this strip, you just need to make a chain of the corresponding centimeters, and fill it with half double crochets. To these stitches, you attach small tassels that will form the fringes. To give it that special finishing touch, you can sew a strip of satin sequins along the fringes and on the edge of the sleeves, just like the author of this fantastic sweater.
