Polo shirts are taking over the runways and becoming a summer essential!

If you love to stay up-to-date, dress comfortably and trendily, keep reading because we bring you the ideal pattern for spring.

It's called Polo Cubanito, designed by Isa Gardu, and the result will fascinate you. For this garment, Isa has chosen Caricia Nature Classic, which, in addition to being a soft recycled cotton, is perfect for knitting light and openwork garments.

YOU WILL NEED

200 grams of white cotton yarn CARICIA NATURE CLASSIC (500 meters).

100 grams of black cotton yarn CARICIA NATURE CLASSIC (250 meters).

100 grams of taupe cotton yarn CARICIA NATURE CLASSIC (250 meters).

Crochet hook size 3.5 mm and 3 mm.

Two stitch markers.

Tapestry needle.

HOW TO CROCHET THE POLO CUBANITO?

I always recommend making a swatch because we all knit with different tension, needle, or yarn thickness, and the measurements may not match. In my case, 13 chains by 9 rows correspond to 10 x 10 cm.

This design begins by crocheting the armhole of the garment. It is an oversized, one-size-fits-all design.

The measurements are as follows:

• 71 cm high.

• 68 cm wide.

Stitches Used:

• Chain: ch.

• Double crochet: dc.

• Single crochet: sc.

This project consists of two pieces, right side and left side. Once joined, we will add the polo collar and the sleeves, which are crocheted onto the garment itself.

We will need to make this piece twice.

Start: With the 3 ½ hook and white yarn, chain 70. Once you have them, place a marker on the 34th chain and another on the 37th, which is where we will make increases to form the corners.

If you need to make it smaller or larger, just keep in mind that the number of chains must always be a multiple of 3.

Row 1: Start by chaining 3, which replaces the first dc + 2 dc in the same chain. Then, skip two chains, and in the third, make 3 dc in the same chain. Continue this sequence until you reach the marker (chain 34), where you will make 3 dc + 3 ch + 3 dc, all in the same chain.

Skip two chains, and in the 37th chain, where our second marker is, repeat the same (3 dc + 3 ch + 3 dc). You will see that two corners have formed.

Continue the sequence until the end of the row, skipping 2 ch, and in the third, make 3 dc in the same chain, until the end where you will make 3 dc. Turn your work.

Row 2: Chain 3 and make 3 dc between every two groups of 3 dc from the first row. When you reach the increase, make 3 dc + 3 ch + 3 dc inside the 3 chains.

Then, continue making 3 dc until the end of the row, finishing with one dc. Turn your work.

Rows 3 to 10: Same as Row 1, turning your work at the end of each row.

Rows 11 to 15: Same as Row 2, alternating with Row 1. Change color and make 4 rows in black.

Rows 16 to 19: Change color again to taupe and make another 4 rows.

Rows 20 to 28: Change to white and make 8 more rows following the pattern.

(This piece must be crocheted twice in mirror image).

- Join the two pieces of the work with a tapestry needle, joining the pieces along the long sides. This will be the back.

- Work 4 rows of sc around the entire bottom edge of the work to finish the garment.

SLEEVES:

Join the shoulders with a tapestry needle for only 24 cm, measuring from the outer part of the shoulder.

After this, we have the main part of the sweater, and we will begin to crochet the sleeves:

• Take the white yarn and start crocheting groups of 3 dc in each space in the round until you complete 4 rows.

• Now take the black yarn and do the same, another 4 rows.

• Finally, repeat the same sequence with the taupe yarn, making another 4 rows.

• Finally, work one row of sc around the entire cuff opening.

Repeat on both sleeves.

NECKLINE AND COLLAR:

Switch to the 3 mm hook and make 4 rows of sc only on the front panels. These will be our plackets or front finish:

-On the right side, sew the buttons with a spacing of about 10 cm between them.

-On the left side, every 10 cm, skip a stitch to create the buttonhole.

•Collar:

With the 3 mm hook, work one row of sc, skipping the right and left placket areas.

We will make 4 rows in white following the sequence of 3 dc in the same chain, skip two chains, and in the third, again make 3 dc in the same chain until the collar is complete. Continue with:

-2 rows in black

-2 rows in taupe.

With this, our polo sweater would be finished; now we just need to hide all the loose ends.
