Rebecca for spring
This cardigan is knitted with our Caricia Bebé yarn. Its fabric is soft and fresh for these spring days; your baby will be safe from colds and... super cute!
YOU WILL NEED
To knit this spring cardigan in a size from 3 to 6 months:
- Caricia Bebé yarn, COL Nº 06. 2 balls
- Knitting needles Nº 2.5 mm.
- Tapestry needle
- 5 buttons
Acquire the materials now
STITCHES USED
- Stockinette stitch (see tutorial stockinette stitch)
- Fantasy rib stitch
*2 knit sts, 1 purl st, 1 knit st* repeat to end of row. *2 purl sts, 1 knit st, 1 purl st*, repeat to end of row.
- Garter stitch (see tutorial garter stitch)
HOW TO MAKE THE CARDIGAN?
Right Front
With double Caricia Bebé yarn, cast on 52 stitches and knit the first 2 rows in garter stitch. On the 6th row from the beginning of the work, decrease 17 stitches proportionally across the row.
On the 10th row from the beginning of the work, increase 6 stitches to form the button band. Knit it by making the first and last stitch (of the 6) in garter stitch.
Work the front in stockinette stitch and from the 46th row, to decrease at the side, decrease 3 stitches every two rows in the next 6 rows.
Don't forget to make 5 buttonholes proportionally distributed on the button band (see tutorial buttonholes).
Armhole
To shape the armhole edge, knit the first 2 stitches of each row in garter stitch.
To shape the armhole, decrease 2 stitches 3 times and 1 stitch 6 times. Knit 4 more rows and then, on the button band side, bind off the 6 stitches of the button band and start the front neckline on the same side. Knit 26 more rows, decreasing 10 stitches for the neckline, distributed among those 26 rows.
Work the last row in garter stitch.
Left Front
Work the same as the right front but in reverse so that both are symmetrical.
Back
With double Caricia Bebé yarn, cast on 108 stitches and knit the first 2 rows in garter stitch. On the 6th row from the beginning of the work, decrease 38 stitches proportionally across the row. Work in stockinette stitch, making the side and armhole decreases on both sides, the same as on the fronts.
Neckline
When you reach a total length of 26 cm, bind off all stitches, working the last row in garter stitch.
ASSEMBLY AND FINISHING
Sew both fronts to the back, along the sides and shoulders (see tutorial sewing seams).
Collar
To make the collar, pick up all the neckline and back stitches one by one with the needle and knit 14 rows in rib stitch. Bind off and secure.
Sew the buttons on the button band.
Iron with low heat.
