SWEATER BEBÉ GOLDEN SPRING

GOLDEN SPRING BABY SWEATER

Looking for a spring project for your little one? You've come to the right place!

What's more spring-like than a sweater full of flowers? This Golden Spring baby sweater is absolutely adorable. It was designed by Albita de Plata with Caricia Primavera yarn, and just look at that texture and color. You're going to love crocheting it!

*This pattern is for size 6 months, but below we will explain how to adapt it to ANY SIZE.

YOU WILL NEED

Yarns:

-        Caricia Primavera 002 (150gr) for the main piece.

-        Caricia Primavera in various colors for the decorative flowers.

-        Spool of gold thread for decorative details and edges.

Hook: 3.5mm

HOW TO CROCHET THE GOLDEN SPRING BABY SWEATER?

STITCHES USED

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

sc: single crochet

hdc: half double crochet

Clarifications:

- We will work the piece in a single piece, first forming a yoke.

- Each round starts with 1 ch that DOES NOT count as the 1st sc.

- The entire piece is crocheted with single crochet stitches, but they will ALWAYS follow the same crocheting method: one normal single crochet (picking up both loops) and one single crochet picking up the back loop only. We will use this method throughout the garment, including increases. For this, the starting chain of the work must always be an even number, so that we start the round with a normal sc and end it with an sc through the back loop.

Size adjustment:

As it is a simple, yoke-style garment, it is very easy to adapt it to any size. The measurements of my sweater are for a 6-month size, but you just have to continue the yoke for as many rounds as you need to reach the armpit of your model and then lengthen the body and sleeves until you complete the desired measurement.

Here are approximate measurements for other baby sizes:

Preemie/1-3/6-9/12/18/24 months

Length: 22/25/28/31/34/37cm

Width: 25/28/30/34/38/41

From center neck to cuff: 25/28/31/33/41/45

Finishing and buttonholes:

Without cutting the yarn, with the right side facing us, we make a round of sl st all around the edge. We start at a bottom corner, going up one of the side flaps, and on rounds 7, 9, and 13 we will make 2 ch and continue with sl st (without skipping any stitch below) to form the three buttonholes. We continue with sl st around the neck, go down the other side flap, and finish by doing the bottom edge of the piece. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Sleeves (x2):

1.     Join yarn at the armpit and make a first round of 32 sc, following the same pattern as the rest of the jacket (normal sc - back loop sc), on the right side. If we find there's too much space in the armpit, we can make 2 more sc there, totaling 34 sc in this first round. Close with sl st, make 1 ch, and turn the work to do the next round on the wrong side, and so on.

2.     If we made 34 sc in the previous round, we will make 2 decreases in this round, in the armpit area. If, on the other hand, we had 32 sc in the first round, we will also have 32 sts in this one.

3.     - 29. Repeat this dynamic of right-side round and wrong-side round with 32 sc each.

30. All sc with two decreases along the round, one on each side approximately. (30 sts)

31. All sc (30 sts)

32. Finish with a full round of sl st, cut and weave in the yarn.

Embellishments:

I decorated the piece with a bouquet of mini flowers on the front, sewn together with gold thread. With that same gold thread, I made stitches all along the edges of the sweater.

Here are the patterns for the two types of flowers and the leaf that I crocheted for the bouquet. They are crocheted with the same yarn but with a 2.5mm hook.

Flower 1:

Make a magic ring and crochet “3 ch-1 sl st” (x5) inside it. Fasten off and cut.

Flower 2:

Make 15 ch and, starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, make “3 hdc together - 1 sl st” along the entire chain. Close with sl st in the last chain, cinch and shape, then fasten off.

Leaves:

Make 6 ch and crochet 1 sl st-1 sc-1 hdc-1 sc-1 sl st on one side of the chain. Make 1 ch to move to the other side of the starting chain and crochet 1 sl st-1 sc-1 hdc-1 sc-1 sl st. Cut and fasten off.

Don't forget to sew on the buttons and your Golden Spring sweater is ready!!
